11 November to 17 December 2000

Walking at night through the city of Hastings (as part of a PhotoWorks commission) Effie Paleologou photographed the edge of incidental happenings, re-inventing our memory of places.  The images, where light and dark confuse reality and dream, focus on absence and longing and create a sense of unease which is only dispelled by the powerful energy engendered by these pictures.

Effie will also present her black and white photographs which relate to abstracted experience of time and space.

Effie Paleologou studied photography at the Royal College of Art.  Recent selected exhibitions include: 2000 The Front, Museum of Hastings (solo show).  Dopplarity, Bank tube station, London.  Made in London, Zelda Cheatle Gallery, London.  Is there Anyone Home? Gallery Westland Place, London (curated by Roy Exley).  Rcits dun Monde Ephmre, les Tmoins Oculistes, Brussels.  Grid Visions, Winchester Gallery.  1999 Territoires / Communauts, Galerie Municipale du Chteau dEau, Toulouse.  The Glass Border, Danielle Arnaud, London.  Mean City, Battersea Art Centre, London (solo show).  1998 Solo x 9 Artists in Clerkenwell, Berry House, London.  1994 BT New Contemporaries, Camden Art Centre, London
