Still lifes |
2004, Lambda prints |
This series was begun whilst the artists were living in Rotterdam during 2004 and is influenced by the Dutch still life and vanitas paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries, referencing the symbolism of the brevity of human life and the transience of earthly pleasures. The process of producing each image stretches over many days as the flowers are encouraged to bloom then wilt. Only then, at the precise moment when the display reachesits maximum potential, but before the petals fall, do the artists photograph it. |
Chinese Arboretum |
2003/4, 100 images of chinese treesfor billboards |
A selection of one hundred images of Chinese trees make up this project. The artists are gradually finding public sites for billboard sized images of individual trees to be displayed. The title of each photograph is taken from the life of someone living near to the tree. In the summer of 2004, working with SI Artspace in Sheffield and JC Decaux, two of the series were sited on billboards in Sheffield. |
Printed cards |
2003, Printed and mailed cards |
A series of printed cards which detail observations; things the artists have encountered and events that have happened to others. The series tracks the progress of a journey half-way around the world, by the locations printed at the bottom of each card and the place from which each set of cards was mailed (always one step further along the journey's route). |
